Dan Baldwin

“Dan Baldwin is a British contemporary artist known for his 'Psychological landscapes”, (Maeve Doyle, Maddox gallery, BBC Radio Soho).

Dan’s vivid contrasts with their multi-layered candy-coloured cerebral content, whether they’re on canvas, paper, fabrics or ceramics, are electrifying, enigmatic and engaging.

Born in Manchester in 1972, Dan Baldwin studied at Eastbourne College of Art & Design, (1990/92) where he was awarded best student 'Graphic Design' before completing a BA in Communication Media from the Kent Institute of Art (1992-1996) , awarded commendation & invited to stay on as 'Studio Associate'.

At this time he curated a solo show at the Candid Arts Trust in Islington, with fellow associate Carne Griffiths, part funded by the Kent Institute of Art titled ‘Shinola', featuring 8 artists who all used text in their work.

He then moved to Brighton (1997), secured his first studio and began developing his practice, exhibiting in the Brighton Fringe festival from 1997-98, gaining local attention via a collaboration with the band The Levellers. His art was seen by the Director of the Horsham Arts centre who offered him a solo show in 1999. This received unrecedented press attention. He has since gone on to become one of the most prominent, recognised and sought after UK artists today.

Dan Baldwin has been the celebrated subject of 26 solo exhibitions London, Horsham, Newcast, Jersey, Harrogate, Brighton, Paris, Dubai, West Hollywood/Los-Angeles‚ Nantucket, Dublin and New York. He has also presented his work in art fairs & group shows in The Royal Academy, Somerset House, Basel, NYC, Lancaster, San Francisco, Warrington, Portugal, Miami, Tokyo, Manchester, Hong Kong, Antwerp, Zurick, Beirut and Texas.

His artworks have been licensed for fashion usage, album art, book covers and for use on TV and film. He has three works in the permanent collection of The Groucho Club.

In 2016 the Saatchi gallery presented a solo retrospective of his print editions featuring 25 prints, many of which sold out.

He has enjoyed high profile collaborations with Max Factor, British Airways, Pete Townsend (The Who), Paolo Nutini, Hush, The Keats Museum, Institute for Digital Archeology, (with poet laureatte Simon Armatage and poet Scarlet Sabett), singer Alison Mosshart & Wasploitation records, UK designer Mercy Delta, Sara Berman, Penguin Random House, menswear designer Gresham Blake, Tom Speight and Atomic Ski.
